AI assistants and AI search tools cite pages that answer a question clearly, state facts plainly (prices, hours, locations, policies), are consistent with what other sites say about you, and can be crawled. Put a direct answer at the top of each page, use structured data, allow reputable AI crawlers in robots.txt if you want to be included, and keep your details identical everywhere. No one can promise a citation.
Write pages that can be quoted
- Start with a two- or three-sentence answer, then the detail.
- One topic per page, with a heading that matches the question.
- Specific facts: prices, hours, what is included and what is not.
- Sources for claims that are not about you.
Technical basics
- Allow crawlers such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended in robots.txt if you want AI tools to use your content. Each provider documents its crawler.
- Structured data: Organization, LocalBusiness, Product and FAQPage where they fit.
- An llms.txt file is an optional, emerging convention that some tools read; Google says it does not use it.
- Fast, server-rendered HTML; content hidden behind scripts is harder to read.
Consistency off the site
Assistants compare sources. If your Google Business Profile, Facebook page and directory listings disagree on hours or prices, you are less likely to be cited correctly. Keep them identical. See Google Business Profile and local SEO.
