Update Elementor safely by taking a backup first, updating the free plugin and Elementor Pro together, then regenerating CSS and checking your most important pages and forms. If something breaks, Elementor's Tools screen has a version rollback, and your backup is the fallback of last resort. On busy sites, try the update on a staging copy first.
The routine
- Back up files and database. See backups.
- Read the changelog for anything marked as a breaking change.
- Update Elementor and Elementor Pro in the same session, since Pro expects a matching free version.
- Go to Elementor › Tools and regenerate CSS and data. Clear caches.
- Check the home page, a post, a product, a form and a popup on desktop and phone.
If something breaks
Elementor › Tools › Version Control can roll the plugin back to an earlier version. Roll back, note what broke, and wait for the next fix release. If both versions misbehave, restore the backup.
Why updates matter
Updates bring security fixes and compatibility with new WordPress and PHP versions. A site stuck on an old version, the usual fate of nulled copies, becomes harder to update the longer it waits. With an AI Web Tools activation, updates come from Elementor for 12 months. See how activation works.
